April is National Poetry Month, and we want to help you celebrate with a new differentiated set of Applied Writing Lessons based on classic and contemporary sonnets. These literature lessons support Common Core and state literacy standards, and they're a great source of inspiration for classes that are participating in this year's 3rd Annual CERCA Slam Poetry Contest.
Sonnets: How do poets use the traditional form of the sonnet to communicate their ideas in new ways? In these lessons, students read poems by great writers including William Shakespeare, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Claude McKay, and Emma Lazarus and analyze how these poets use the sonnet form to express their ideas.
