Units
- While we encourage leaders to implement the full scope of the curriculum, depending on the adoption curve, some leaders make exceptions for transitional years and collaborate with ThinkCERCA’s team to adapt while maintaining the integrity of the adoption.
- With guidance, the sequence of units with a primary focus on literary and informational texts can be rearranged, so long as they are sequenced with ThinkCERCA’s guidance based on the pre-requisite skills progression. (For example, Unit 7 is a comparative analysis unit that builds upon many of the skills from Units 1, 3, and 5.)
Text selection
- While reading the text selections in the curriculum is essential, ThinkCERCA also offers recommended independent, thematically related reading selections at a variety of reading levels.

- Leaders who purchase multiyear licenses can request additional titles for our growing library of Units and Longer Works! (See Current Longer Works)
- Teachers can also customize the curriculum by adding texts using our custom lesson tool. These lessons can be shared with colleagues!
Pacing
- While detailed daily lesson plans are provided in the teacher’s guide, tasks are starred when they are essential and not starred when they are optional. Teachers can determine their daily plans based on the options provided.
- Best Practices Strategies allow teachers to provide engaging strategies aligned to research-based practices, so teachers can balance flexible and resilient routines with novelty for increased student engagement.
Differentiation
- Teachers have access to Student-centered Learning Guides and English Language Learning guides that can be implemented to provide 5 different access points to grade-level tasks, based on student need.
- Technology-enabled custom lesson tools also allow teachers to permit students to further modify the digital lessons via technology-enable supports and AI-powered scaffolds.
